EXPERIENCE
Chief Design Officer
Devise LLC (June 2007 - present)
I
am co-founder of this digital product design and development consultancy. I lead the definition of Interaction
Design solutions. My co-founder Mike McAulay specializes in software engineering, and we
approach product development activities using a combination of best practices from Interaction Design
and Agile Development. My key areas of expertise include customer research, product definition,
and conceptual interaction design. We also conduct professional audits to assess existing designs and
technologies and provide training to install user-centered design practices. Clients include:
- St. Jude Medical: [Next Generation]
Pacemaker & ICD software
Senior
Human Factors Design Engineer
St. Jude Medical,
Cardiac Rhythm Management Division (August
2002 - June 2007)
I
led the creation of user-centered software solutions, including managing
project activities and collaborating closely with cross-disciplinary
team members. Working simultaneously on multiple projects, I was
involved in all facets of conceptual product design and software
development. At St. Jude, I formalized a powerful system for product design
in the medical industry by combining Interaction Design principles
& best practices with classic Human Factors methods. My processes
included ethnographic customer research, mockup and prototype development,
and detailed requirements definition. I also led usability testing
and participated in design reviews throughout the product lifecycle
to ensure that the final product would meet customers' expectations.
Projects included:

PCS (Patient Care System) hardware and software
